2nd day update from Suyam Charitable Trust, Chennai.

Dear All,

At first we would like to thank you all for your kind support. More than 1000 calls in response to our email campaign. Our feedback details as follows:

About 2nd day relief work:
On 27.12.04 our team of 15 volunteers in two Mahindra Vans and Two Ambulance vehicle move around the affected areas from 4 pm to 3.00 am (28.12.04) and distributed the old clothes, new inner garments, biscuits, water packets, bed spreads to more than 1000 people.

We have taken some statistics and collected more data about the affected victims and produce the same to u later.

As of yesterday’s efforts we have gathered some informations which will be helpful to u to present to the donors who willing to help:

Where we went and what we did in 2nd day relief work
Stanley Hospital: More than 40 families are admitted in Stanley and the needy people would be 160 to 200 persons (children to elders) at an average of 4 people in a family.

General Hospital : All the dead bodies are sent back to their respective families. The affected victims are only two patients admitted there and they were declared unidentified.

Royapettah Hospital : Over 50 to 100 affected people are admitted here and all of them were distributed clothes and biscuits.

Pattinambakkam Area : With great difficulty distributed only few clothes and biscuits but couldn’t control the crowd.

Santhome Area
Perumal Temple : There are approximately 2000 affected people got a temporary shelter, as we reached the temple late night we couldn’t distribute in big volume but will take up the work today.

Santhome Church:
Around 50 people were distributed sarees and biscuits as we are not allowed inside, hence restricted the distribution.

Requirements list given by affected victims in Stanley Hospital:
KITCHEN UTENSILS
SCHOOL BOOKS (I STD to X STD) in Tamil Medium – Corporation School (state board syllabus)
NOTE BOOKS, PENCILS, ERASERS, SHARPENERS, SCALE & etc
CORPORATION SCHOOL UNIFORMS
BED SPREADS
OLD SAREES required in big Volume

Capital Requirements:
BOAT
FISH NET

…… To make both the above items the cost would be Rs.10,000.00 each.

………...At present we can budget for 1000 people to start with and based on the response we can increase the volume………………
